Winchester District Lay Servant Training – 9/15 & 16

September 15th and 16th

For anyone interested in becoming a Lay Servant, this training is offered on Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th.  Anyone already serving in this capacity but has not had training in the last 3 years is required to attend.  Lay Servant training is beneficial to anyone who wishes to grow deeper in their faith journey.   All of the information, including online registration can be found at the Winchester District website, http://www.winchesterdistrictumc.org/, or contact Robin in the church office for a registration form. The fee for this training is $20 and includes lunch.

A Lay Servant is: An active supportive member of the United Methodist Church;

  • Eager to serve through the church;
  • Well-informed on the Scripture and the doctrine, heritage, organization and the life of The United Methodist Church;
  • Committed to witnessing through church and community leadership, care-giving ministries, and spoken communication; and
  • Willing to improve his or her skills for service.

What is expected of a Lay Servant?

Local (Church) Lay Servants and *Certified Lay Servant

  • Support, serve and minister to the local church;
  • Look for leadership opportunities in the local church;
  • Must file a report with their Charge (Church) Conference every year; and
  • Take a refresher course every three years.
  • *Must take at least one Advanced Course every three years to maintain certification.
